Balladonia is situated on the Eyre Highway at the Western Australian end of the long Nullarbor journey and is a great place to stop and revive when travelling long distances. Visitors can see claypans typical of the region and old stone fences built by pioneer farmers in the 1800s. In July 1979 pieces of Skylab landed here and gave international fame to Balladonia. In accordance with this the Balladonia Hotel now exhibit memorabilia from Skylab, the hotel offers a hands on experience within its newly opened museum. Rocky outcrops and granite sheets collectively called Newman’s Rocks are located 50 kilometres west of Balladonia and form a natural water catchment and also provide an attractive camping spot. This area supports a large number of wildlife including donkeys, emus and kangaroos and beautiful wildflowers are abundant in the spring. Take the time to visit the cultural heritage museum which has been established in the Balladonia Roadhouse complex. Nullarbor Links is a vision that is underway to provide an 18 hole golf course stretching from Kalgoorlie to Ceduna across the Nullarbor – the only golf course of its kind in the world. Dine-in or takeaway meals are available and basic dry goods are also sold. The hotel/motel offers modern, air-conditioned facilities and Balladonia also has caravan and camping sites.
