Your tourist guide for Henty provides you with the essential travel resources to plan your holiday!
Henty is a place where Australian ingenuity, rural heritage and warm country hospitality come together. Known proudly as “The Home of the Header,” this Riverina township has played a defining role in shaping modern agriculture. Today, Henty blends its pioneering past with vibrant events, peaceful natural spaces and a welcoming community—making it an ideal stop for travellers seeking authentic regional experiences.
Henty’s identity is inseparable from the remarkable invention that changed farming forever. In 1914, local genius Headlie Taylor designed the Taylor Header, a breakthrough machine that revolutionised grain harvesting. His invention is widely regarded as one of the most significant contributions to Australia’s grain industry, cementing Henty’s place in agricultural history.
This spirit of innovation lives on through the Henty Field Days, one of the nation’s premier agri‑business events. For more than 40 years, farmers, producers and innovators have gathered here to share ideas, showcase new technologies and celebrate rural life. Today, the Field Days site features more than 18 permanent buildings and attracts over 50,000 visitors during the third week of September. The atmosphere is electric—part trade fair, part festival, and entirely unique to Henty.
Beyond its agricultural fame, Henty offers peaceful outdoor spaces and a strong sense of community pride. The Henty Rotary Nature Reserve, once a government dam, has been lovingly transformed into a tranquil haven for aquatic species and birdlife. It’s a favourite spot for picnics, quiet reflection and reconnecting with nature.
In town, the Henty Historic Village Walk invites visitors to step back in time. Pick up your guide from the local shopping centre and wander past heritage buildings, interpretive signs and landmarks that tell the story of Henty’s early settlers, its railway roots and the people who shaped the region. Allow at least an hour—you’ll want time to soak in the details.
Henty is conveniently located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, roughly halfway between Albury and Wagga Wagga.
Henty is welcoming year‑round, but each season offers something special:
Henty is more than a stop on the highway—it’s a destination rich in heritage, innovation and natural beauty. Whether you’re drawn by its agricultural legacy, its welcoming community or its serene outdoor spaces, Henty offers a genuine slice of Australian country life.
