Direct flights from Sydney to Darwin will recommence on 22 June 2026. During peak periods, there will be up to seven return flights each week, adding an additional 80,000 seats annually between these two locations.
This offers convenient daytime departures for those visiting friends and family, as well as for business and leisure travelers. On 10 December 2025, Virgin Australia announced the resumption of direct flights between Sydney and Darwin starting 22 June 2026, re-establishing connections between two iconic destinations in Australia.

The airline plans to operate as many as seven return flights weekly during peak travel times, enhancing connectivity between New South Wales and the Northern Territory while fostering tourism growth. This reinstated route will facilitate easier access for visitors to explore the Top End, while also providing Northern Territory residents with more options and competitive fares for travel to Sydney and beyond.
Alistair Hartley, Virgin Australia’s Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, stated that the return of this route demonstrates the airline’s dedication to offering travelers more choice and convenience.
