Your tourist guide for Moogerah provides you with the essential travel resources to plan your holiday!
Tucked within the dramatic landscapes of Queensland’s Scenic Rim, Moogerah is a place where volcanic peaks rise sharply from the earth, where a shimmering lake reflects endless blue skies, and where the pace of life slows just enough for you to breathe deeply and reconnect with nature. Only an hour’s drive south‑west of Brisbane, Moogerah feels worlds away—an idyllic retreat framed by rugged mountains, rolling countryside, and the peaceful waters of Lake Moogerah.
Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure, a romantic escape, or a family getaway surrounded by natural beauty, Moogerah offers a rare blend of tranquillity and exhilaration.
Just outside the township, the ancient Moogerah Peaks dominate the horizon. Formed by volcanic activity more than 22 million years ago, this dramatic cluster includes Mt French, Mt Greville, Mt Moon and Mt Edwards—each with its own personality, contours, and challenges. Bushwalkers and climbers from around the world are drawn to their rugged terrain, with Mt French especially renowned for its spectacular cliff faces and internationally recognised climbing routes.
The peaks offer a chance to wander through open eucalypt forests, discover pockets of rainforest tucked into sheltered gullies, and stand atop rocky summits where sweeping views stretch across the Scenic Rim. It’s a place where solitude feels natural and the grandeur of the landscape inspires a sense of awe.
Five minutes north‑east of Moogerah lies the jewel of the region—Lake Moogerah. This sparkling expanse of water is a favourite for boating, fishing, water‑skiing, kayaking and lakeside picnics. Families spread out on the grassy banks, anglers cast lines into well‑stocked waters, and thrill‑seekers carve across the lake’s surface behind speeding boats.
The lake is stocked with Australian Bass, Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Mary River Cod and Saratoga, making it a rewarding destination for fishing enthusiasts. A permit is required for fishing, but boating is unrestricted, with two concrete launching ramps available for easy access.
As the sun sets behind the peaks, the lake transforms into a canvas of gold and amber—a perfect backdrop for an evening stroll or a quiet moment of reflection.
